Defect Recognition and Actions
On the Line
- When a defect is noticed on the pipe currently running on the line, alert the shift lead/supervisor/production manager immediately.
- For any defective pipe being produced, alert the forklift driver so he can take it to a designated quarantine area.
- The forklift driver is to take any defective pipe to a pre-designated quarantine area marked off by orange pallets.
- The operator on the line, with the aid of the process tech or whoever else may be available to help troubleshoot, will have a ten pipe limit on diameters 24” and lower, and a five pipe limit on diameters 30” and above, to correct the issue before shutting the line down, unless otherwise stated by the production manager.
- Even before the limit is reached, keep the production manager informed on what is going on, and what actions are being taken to correct the issue.
- Make sure any bad pipe produced is properly accounted for on the Production Reports (good pieces vs. scrap).
In the Yard
- Some defective pipe will inevitably make it out into the yard without being noticed in the warehouse. All forklift drivers are to keep an eye out for pipe defects out in the yard.
- If defective pipe is noticed in any M294 stack, remove that pipe and transport to a designated quarantined area marked off by orange pallets.
- Let the shift lead/supervisor/production manager know ASAP.
- If a lift operator damages pipe with the forklift, do not keep the damaged pipe in the M294 stack with the rest of the pipe. Transport damaged pipe to designated quarantine area and inform the shift lead/supervisor/production manager.
