30, 36, 42 Die & Cool Plug Installation

What: A checklist to install the die and cool plug for 30”, 36”, and 42”

When: During diameter change

Why Use: To create a consistent process that covers necessary checks to ensure a speedy start-up

Keys: Install new gaskets & O-rings at every diameter change

Installation Steps

  1. Reverse steps from removal, thoroughly clean die front and air recesses.
  2. Before lifting the die place new aluminum O-rings in the rear sealing ports.
  3. Taking precaution not to bump the die when raising and knocking the sealing rings out
  4. Line die up with die stand and begin installation of the bolts. Tighten in a crisscross pattern
  5. Locate the cool plug, using the straps in the box attach the cool plug to the die using bolts inside the plug
  6. Blow out all water and vacuum lines
  7. Reinstall plumbing with blue-blue, red-red, green-green
    1. Check and install vacuum zone lines
    2. Check and install water lines and light on front, check for leaks!
    3. Verify air around the inner wall caliper is equal all the way around
      1. If not, troubleshoot the issue and repair or replace what is faulty
    4. Verify all vacuum solenoids are working properly
      1. If not, repair or replace
  8. Verify you can see through the plug all the way around, except for at the mounting shoulder center point
  9. Plug in all heater bands coming off of the die and turn control panels back on and monitor the heat numbers to make sure they are working and coming up to temp correctly.
  10. After die has been heating for several hours go back and retorque all bolts to ensure no leak
  11. Double check bolts before start up
