Corrugator Start-up Procedure
Step 4
Wait for the Cuff to pass the forming section then start the inner extruder and take it to run speed, wait for 2 or 3 molds (2 minutes depending on pipe size) to pass over the forming section with the inner extruder ON then start the outer extruder and take it to run speed as fast as you can. From the back of the corrugator you can see how the material is coming out of the die, our goal at this point is to pass the material over the calipers and sit on top of the inner material so we can have a closed chamber so we can blow a bubble of plastic with the process air, as you see the bubble building up you can lower your pressure to 3 psi wait fir 30 seconds then to 1 psi wait for 30 seconds then go to the desired process air for each specific pipe size.
Once you see that you are blowing a bubble or a rib on every corrugation of the mold move to the back of the corrugator and monitor the vacuum on the first gauge for the valve that is open, reach -18in/hg or more this should be stable as the corrugator is forming ribs the vacuum from the first section will move in to the second section and will start showing some vacuum pressure always -5 in/hg or more, when this happens you can now open the second vacuum valve and it should maintain more than -18 in/hg, then repeat the process with the 3rd vacuum valve.
Step 5
By this time or step you would have already plastic moving out of the cooling plug you can now turn on the vacuum for the cooling plug and check that it goes up to the desired vacuum pressure.
Step 6
Accompany the pipe all the way into the cutting area making sure the pipe doesn’t get caught up on a V stand or anywhere else.
Do all your checks and measurements to make sure the pipe is within specs. Make sure all the Vacuum air and water gauges are stable and reading properly.
