Ultrasonic measuring device
How to use the ultrasonic measuring device
- Plug in transducer/sensor (figure 1) into port T/R 1 (figure 2)
- Turn on power using the GREEN power button in the lower right hand corner
- Wait approximately 20 seconds for the device to boot up.
You will now check to make sure the device is calibrated. You will need one of the black calibration gages located in the hard case & the gel/lubrication. If you get a .244 or a .505 reading (depending on which block you are using) continue to step 4. DO NOT PROCEED TO STEP 4 IF THE INSTRUMENT IS OUT OF CALIBRATION!!! See instructions below on how to calibrate if necessary.
How to calibrate the instrument when necessary
- Add a very small drop of the lubricant on the transducer/sensor (figure 3). Place it onto the large .505 block
- Press the YELLOW “CAL VEL” button. Once you get a reading, press enter. Edit the reading to .505 using the GREEN up/down arrows, the press the YELLOW “CAL ZERO” button.
- You are now finished w/ the .505 block, and will need the smaller.244 black calibration block
- Place another small drop of the lubricant (if needed) onto the transducer and measure the small black and press enter.
- Edit the reading to .244, if necessary and then press the RED “MEAS” button in the top left hand corner.
- YOU ARE NOW READY TO USE THE ULTRASONIC MEASURING DEVICE
- You can now measure the 8 areas of the Inner walls, Outer wall, and the Compression areas using the transducer/sensor.
- Make sure the pipe is not dusty or dirty as it will be difficult to get an accurate reading if so.
- MEASURE THE 3RD RIB PAST THE SPIGOT IF YOU ARE RUNNING CUFFED PIPE. MEASURE THE 5TH RIB IF YOU ARE RUNNING STRAIGHT PIPE
- Add a small drop of the lubricant to the sensor (figure 2) and begin to measure all of the required areas until you have completed the entire mic sheet. (Figure 4-Inner wall, figure 5-Outer wall, and figure 6-Compression)
- Turn off power using the GREEN power button in the lower right hand corner.
- Carefully unplug the transducer/sensor and place it back into the bag. Put the unit, wiring, and lubricant back into the hard case.
- Close case, and return it to the QA lab
